Historically, the United States of America is a place of refuge. The desire for people to try something new was so strong that large numbers seeking fame, fortune, or even just safety flocked to the land on little more than hope. To say that these citizens are the backbone of the nation would imply some sort of disconnectedness between them and their home country. Simply put: they are the country.
Throughout its history, the United States has experienced the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows; not unlike any other collection of territories throughout time. But those events, in conjunction with the conglomeration of individuals that make up its citizens, collectively strengthen the collective resolve and endurance that the country continues to exhibit. History is not merely a thing of the past; it’s porthole to the identity of a nation.
